Polycarbonate Sheets Become Core Material for Green Upgrading, Empowering High-Quality Development in Multiple Sectors

Recently, polycarbonate (PC) sheets have rapidly replaced traditional materials in construction, agriculture, transportation and other key fields by virtue of their outstanding advantages such as light weight, high strength, weather resistance and energy saving. They have become a core force driving green and low-carbon development and engineering quality upgrading, with a continuous rise in market demand.

As an ideal alternative to glass, PC sheets boast remarkable core performance. Their impact resistance is 250–300 times that of ordinary glass. A 10mm-thick sheet can withstand the impact of a 5kg steel ball falling from 3 meters without breaking, providing excellent safety protection. At only half the weight of glass, they greatly reduce structural loads, as well as transportation and construction costs. With a light transmittance of 88%–91% and a double-sided UV coating blocking 99% of ultraviolet rays, they perform stably in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 120°C. After 8,000 hours of xenon lamp aging testing, light transmittance decreases by only 0.9%, and the yellowing index is controlled within 4.4 over 15 years, ensuring long-term stability. Meanwhile, the material supports customized processing including hot bending, cold bending and engraving, and is available in transparent, frosted, colored and other finishes to meet diverse design needs.

PC sheets have demonstrated strong adaptability across applications. In agricultural greenhouses, 8mm PC sun sheets achieve over 85% light transmittance, and their double-layer hollow structure reduces annual energy consumption by 22% and shortens crop growth cycles by 15%. In transportation hubs, customized solutions such as 30mm wing sheets and U-lock hollow sheets have been adopted in more than 100 large-scale projects including Xiong’an Railway Station and Guangzhou South Railway Station. Single panels can reach 12 meters in length, with 2,000㎡ installed in just three days, and 15 years of maintenance-free performance has proven their reliability. In industrial and construction fields, their B1 fire rating makes them suitable for factory partitions, lighting roofs, canopies and other scenarios, while maintaining stable performance in extreme environments such as cold chain and chemical industries.

Industry experts noted that with the upgrading of green manufacturing and customization capabilities, polycarbonate sheets are transforming from single-function materials to systematic solutions. Relying on their lightweight, energy-saving and safety features, they will continue to play a key role in new building lighting, smart agricultural facilities and transportation hub upgrading, injecting strong material momentum into high-quality development.
