PC Hollow Sheet Become Top Choice for Greenhouse Construction, with Outstanding Light Transmission and Weather Resistance

With the rapid development of facility agriculture, the market for polycarbonate (PC) sun panels used in greenhouse construction continues to heat up. Reporters learned from multiple sources that thanks to their excellent light transmission, impact resistance, and thermal insulation performance, PC sun panels are emerging as the preferred covering material for modern smart greenhouses, showing a clear trend of replacing traditional glass and film materials.

A Look Inside the Greenhouses

At a modern agricultural demonstration park in Jiangsu Province, rows of greenhouses covered with PC sun panels stand neatly arranged. The park manager explained that Phase 1 of the project used PC sun panels as the greenhouse roofing material, and after more than two years of use, the overall results have been positive. “PC sun panels have an impact resistance 250 times greater than glass. Even during hailstorms in northern winters, they are not easily damaged, saving us a lot of worry,” the manager said.

Beyond impact resistance, the thermal insulation performance of PC sun panels is another key advantage. PC sun panels typically feature a double or triple co-extrusion structure with an air layer in between, effectively preventing heat loss. Calculations show that under identical conditions, energy consumption in PC sun panel greenhouses can be reduced by approximately 30% compared to glass greenhouses.

Additionally, PC sun panels offer excellent anti-condensation properties. By applying anti-fog agents to the inner surface, water vapor condenses into droplets that slide down along the inner wall of the panel rather than dripping directly onto crops, effectively reducing the occurrence of pests and diseases.

Industry analysts predict that as national policy support for facility agriculture continues to strengthen and modern agricultural industrial parks are built across various regions, the PC sun panel market will maintain stable growth momentum. It is estimated that the domestic greenhouse PC panel market will achieve an average annual growth rate exceeding 10% over the next five years.

Notably, smart greenhouses are driving higher performance requirements for panel materials. New product categories such as PC panels with automatic light transmission adjustment capabilities and inflatable PC panels that automatically open and close based on temperature changes are emerging as key directions for industry research and development.
