Boom of Green Buildings Makes Polycarbonate Sheets a Top Choice for Modern Building Materials

Time : 2026-04-30

With the comprehensive implementation of national policies for green and low-carbon buildings, the construction and building materials industry is accelerating its transformation toward lightweight, energy-saving and safe development. Traditional building materials such as glass and color steel plates have gradually exposed application shortcomings. Featuring comprehensive performance advantages, high-performance polycarbonate (PC) sheets have quickly occupied the mainstream market of construction materials and become core materials for municipal buildings, commercial venues and civil infrastructure. At present, polycarbonate hollow sheets and solid sheets are widely adopted in newly built public buildings, ecological parks and cultural tourism supporting projects across the country, completely reshaping the application pattern of traditional building materials.

The greatest core advantage of polycarbonate sheets lies in their balanced performance, which perfectly solves many pain points of traditional building materials. Compared with ordinary glass sheets, PC sheets weigh only half of glass, greatly reducing the load-bearing pressure on building structures and complying with the lightweight design standards of modern architecture. Meanwhile, their impact resistance is more than 200 times that of ordinary glass, providing excellent wind pressure and impact resistance and eliminating potential safety hazards caused by broken glass falling off. In terms of light transmittance, high-quality PC sheets achieve a light transmittance of about 90%, close to tempered glass. Equipped with built-in anti-ultraviolet coatings, they can effectively block ultraviolet rays and prevent the aging and fading of indoor furniture and equipment.

In terms of energy saving and consumption reduction, polycarbonate sheets deliver outstanding thermal insulation performance. The hollow structure of PC hollow sheets forms an effective air insulation layer, which blocks outdoor high temperature in summer and retains indoor heat in winter, significantly reducing building energy consumption for air conditioning and heating and fully meeting building energy-saving design standards. In addition, the sheets boast excellent weather resistance and can operate stably in extreme temperature environments ranging from -40℃ to 120℃. Resistant to intense sunlight, rainstorms, frost and other harsh weather conditions, they will not yellow, crack or deform during long-term outdoor use, greatly lowering the later maintenance costs of buildings.

Currently, polycarbonate sheets are widely used in daylighting roofs of stadiums, mall canopies, station awnings, garage ceilings, landscape daylighting sheds and other scenarios. In urban renewal and old community renovation projects across major cities, PC sheets are gradually replacing outdated and damaged traditional ceiling materials. Industry data shows that the annual growth rate of PC sheet demand in the domestic construction sector has exceeded 15% in the past three years, with continuously rising market penetration. Industry insiders state that as green building rating standards become increasingly stringent, polycarbonate sheets integrating safety, energy saving, durability and aesthetics will continue to lead the track of new green building materials and boost the upgrading of the construction industry.
