Short answer: this rally is cost-driven, not demand-driven. Sheet prices will follow resin upward through late October into mid-November, but by a smaller percentage than resin itself. If your project must be delivered before Q1 2027, lock now and take delivery in batches rather than betting on a correction that may not come.
What happened in the raw material market this October
According to Sunsirs (生意社) price monitoring, the benchmark PC resin price stood at RMB 15,050/tonne on 19 October 2026, up 2.26% from RMB 14,716.67 at the start of the month, before easing to RMB 14,900/tonne the next day. Against the August 2026 level of RMB 14,550/tonne, the centre of gravity has clearly moved up.
The real driver sits further upstream. Bisphenol A (BPA), the main monomer for polycarbonate, was benchmarked at RMB 11,200/tonne on 9 October 2026 — up 12.79% over 30 days, 18.02% over 60 days and 33.49% over 90 days.
Read those two paragraphs together and you get the story: resin has not yet caught up with monomer. That gap is exactly what puts pressure on sheet quotations in Q4.
Three reasons for the increase — only one of them is about you
1. Monomer cost. BPA up a third in 90 days pushes the PC cost floor up.
2. Plant and turnaround cycles. China's PC capacity has entered a slow-growth phase — roughly 3.97 million tonnes/year across 18 producers at the end of 2024, with 11 integrated BPA suppliers accounting for 78% of capacity. Heavy integration means supply swings during turnarounds are concentrated rather than spread out.
3. Demand is not strengthening in step. This is the part that matters. Prices already softened in the second half of October, which confirms a cost-push rather than a demand-pull rally.
Cost-push rallies behave in a characteristic way: fast up, lagged pass-through, and a plateau rather than a cliff at the top. For buyers, that means no panic stockpiling — and no waiting for a big drop either.
How the cost travels from resin to sheet
A sheet quotation is resin cost + additives and UV co-extrusion layer + energy and labour + packing and freight + margin.
Resin dominates the cost base, but it is not the whole of it — which is why a 10% resin increase rarely produces a 10% sheet increase. Processing and energy costs are relatively fixed and dilute the movement. The same mechanism works in reverse: when resin falls, sheet prices fall later and less.
In practice you will see three things:
• Shorter quote validity. A normal 30-day quote compresses to 7–15 days.
• Batch pricing on large orders. First shipment at the locked price, later shipments settled against the shipment-month resin average.
• Thicker sheets move more in absolute terms. The same 10% resin move costs far more per square metre on 10 mm solid than on 4 mm.
Three practical recommendations
1. Decide with your project schedule, not with a price forecast.
If delivery is required before Q1 2027, lock the price. If the site opens in H2 2027, lock capacity and tooling now and leave a floating window on price.
2. Lock part of the volume — not all of it, not none of it.
A common structure is 60–70% at a fixed price with the balance at market. You protect the budget floor without buying the entire order at a peak.
3. Put quote validity in the contract, not in a chat message.
The most expensive misunderstandings in a volatile market are about whether last month's price still stands. Define validity, the repricing trigger (for example resin monthly average moving more than ±5%) and the notice period.
Where SINHAI stands
We have manufactured polycarbonate sheet for more than 20 years, covering multiwall hollow, solid, corrugated, functional sheets and matching profiles. In volatile periods we state quote validity and repricing terms on the quotation itself, and we reserve production slots for large projects before finalising price — so what you receive is a date we can actually run, not a number that cannot be scheduled.
Send us your thickness, panel size and destination port and we will build a budget including freight.
FAQ
Will polycarbonate sheet prices spike before the end of 2026?
The current move is cost-push, and prices already showed correction signals in late October. High-level consolidation is more likely than a one-way spike. The extent depends on BPA supply and PC plant turnaround schedules — which is an argument for partial price locking rather than directional bets.
Why does a 10% resin increase only add 5–7% to a sheet quote?
Because resin is not the whole cost base. Additives, UV co-extrusion, energy, labour and packing are relatively fixed and dilute the resin movement. The same dilution applies downward, which is why sheet prices fall later and less than resin.
How long will a quotation be valid if I order now?
In a volatile market we typically issue 7–15 day validity with repricing terms stated on the quote. For long project cycles, batch pricing is available.
