U Lock Plastic Sheet — PC Standing Seam Roofing System
Baoding Sinhai Sunboard Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a polycarbonate standing seam system manufacturer for commercial, industrial and architectural glazing. Each u lock plastic sheet is constructed from 100% virgin material or quality SABIC/BAYER resin. Each product has a co-extruded UV protection layer of 50-117 microns on one or both sides. It is available in thicknesses of 8–16mm and works reliably from -40°C to +120°C. Sinhai has 25 manufacturing lines in 3 sites, producing more than 60,000 tonnes per year.
What Is a U Lock Plastic Sheet?
A u lock plastic sheet is a polycarbonate standing seam panel that can be recognised by its U-shaped edges that fit together. It doesn't use piercing screws; instead, aluminium or polycarbonate joiners snap panels together, making a single surface with no fasteners.
This design directly fixes three issues that come up over and over again in roofing and window projects:
- Thermal-expansion holes in standard screw-fixed ways cause water to leak.
- Structural stress caused by material movement when temperature changes
- Not strong enough against wind and snow loads in large-span roofing applications
The hidden-fixing system lets the panels bend and stretch without any problems. This lowers the chance that they will buckle, crack, or lose their seal over time.
Key Features and Technical Advantages
Hidden Fixing, Zero Fastener Penetrations
The U-shaped locking edge secures the panel using clips, not with screws. The sheets just float within the system and expand and contract without any effect on the weatherseal.
Large working temperature range
-40°C to +120°C service range for cold climate installations, industrial facilities and high heat roofing conditions without deformation or embrittlement.
Self extinguishing, B1 fire rating
Each sheet is B1 fire rated, meaning it ceases burning when the ignition source is removed, complying with building code standards for commercial and public-use buildings.
Light Transmittance 40%-80%
The transmission is between 40% and 80%, depending on the thickness and colour chosen, providing architects and engineers quantifiable control over the amount of sunshine.
Impact resistance 250 times that of glass
The basic material polycarbonate is resistant to the Falling Ball impact test and almost hail and incidental impact resistant.
UV Co-Extrusion
The co-extruded UV layer (50-117 microns, one or two sides) protects 99.9% of the damaging UV light, which prevents yellowing and surface damage. The material retains clarity and structural integrity for 10–15 years under ASTM G154 accelerated weathering conditions.

Applications
Commercial Skylights and Atriums
It is used in shopping malls and public buildings to provide vast amounts of natural light across a long distance. The weatherseal's concealed anchoring system enables thermal mobility without visible fasteners or gaps.
The North-Light Roofing of the Industrial
The system's load-bearing capability and resistance to corrosive atmospheres ensure operation in chemically active situations, a boon for manufacturing facilities.
Sports Stadia and Facades of Architecture
High wind pressure resistance and controllable translucency are critical for applications of vertical cladding. Testing under ASTM E330 validates system performance under wind load without loss of weather tightness.
Factory Roofs, Garden Buildings, Carports
Available in 8–16mm thickness, suitable for smaller residential buildings as well as larger commercial roofs, it provides a feasible solution for project sizes.
Quality Control
Multi-step inspection before shipping for each u lock plastic sheet:
- ASTM D1003 Spectrophotometer Testing — measures the haze and light transmittance values
- ISO 4892-2 Accelerated weathering – evaluates yellowing index and colour change after a simulated time of exposure
- Compression and tensile load tests to check U-joint integrity under positive and negative pressure
- Dimensional Tolerance Checks – checks U-hook height and width for good snap-lock fit
- Falling Ball Impact Test – tests hail and incidental impact resistance
The standard procedure involves inspection of raw materials, inspections throughout manufacturing and inspection of the final delivery. The facility is ISO 9001:2015, CE and RoHS certified.

FAQ
Q1: How does the product handle thermal expansion compared to standard screw-fixed sheets?
A: Clips hold the panels rather than screws, so the material expands and contracts freely along its length. This prevents buckling, cracking, and seal failure caused by thermal stress over time.
Q2: Can the product be cold-curved for arched roofs?
A: Cold curving is possible. The minimum cold-curving radius must be at least 175 times the sheet thickness to maintain structural integrity within the product's design parameters.
Q3: Is the system compatible with standard aluminum framing?
A: The system is designed to work with aluminum glazing bars and clips matched to the U-profile, forming a fully sealed assembly without additional modifications.
Q4: How long does the UV protection last?
A: Under ASTM G154 accelerated weathering test conditions, the co-extruded UV layer maintains optical clarity and structural strength for 10–15 years.
Q5: Does the standing seam require additional sealant?
A: The mechanical snap-lock provides the primary water barrier. EPDM gaskets inside the joiners add secondary protection against capillary water movement, so no field-applied sealant is required under normal installation conditions.
Q6: What colors and surface finishes are available?
A: Standard colors include transparent, bronze, grey, opal, lake blue, amber, dark blue, silver, orange, and yellow. Surface options include smooth, matte, anti-fog, and light diffusion — all available on request.
