U-Lock Polycarbonate Sheet for Roofing, Facades & Canopies
When weathertight performance and a clean architectural finish are required for a roofing or facade project, U-lock polycarbonate sheet is the ideal material. Its raised 'U'-shaped interlocking edge profile precludes drilling through the panel surface, eliminating leak sites and stress fractures that screw-fixed glazing systems create. It fits glazing, canopy, roofing, and facade applications in commercial, industrial, and infrastructural projects in 8–16 mm thickness.
What Is a U-Lock Polycarbonate Sheet?
Polycarbonate glazing uses through-panel fasteners. Water intrusion, temperature stress, and difficulty resealing render those penetration locations the assembly's weakest point.
A snap-on connection over the upright 'U'-shaped edges replaces surface penetration in the u-lock system. Each aluminium or polycarbonate connection secures the panel without contacting the face. The panel expands and contracts with temperature without loading the supporting structure or compromising the joint seal since it is free in the joinery.

Performance Characteristics
Surface fasteners are absent, thus the panel face remains intact after installation. The interlocking connection profile seals joints without sealing tape or UV-degradable gaskets. This matters primarily in roofing and skylight applications with inevitable weather exposure.
Floating connections manage thermal movement. Over its specified temperature range of -40 to +120 °C, polycarbonate expands and compresses significantly. Rigid through-screws resist movement and break the panel or fastening point. Panels slide freely in the u-lock connection without affecting the assembly.
The U-lock polycarbonate sheet requires no panel joint drilling for installation. Panel edges interlock, and connections mechanically snap. This decreases on-site work time compared to surface-screw systems, especially on long-span constructions with many anchoring locations.
Typical Applications
Warehouse and industrial roofing. Standing-seam profiles are suitable for large-span buildings vulnerable to snow and wind pressure because they distribute force along the panel edge rather than at screw points. The method is employed on roofing spans where long-term joint integrity is crucial.
Commercial facades. Multiple-wall structure insulates business rooms while translucent panels let natural light in. The screw-free exterior appears homogeneous over broad facade sections.
Large canopies and sports facilities. Cold-curved to architectural radii, these sheets may be used on curved canopy structures where flat rigid panels cannot. The floating connection permits large-span covered space structural movement.
Carports, dividers, covered pathways. For smaller installations, the crisp surface quality and extensive colour range make the system suitable for carport roofs, facade cladding, internal walls, and pedestrian corridor coverings.
Surface and Color Options
Surface finishes include smooth, matte, and anti-fog. Pool enclosures and growing facilities benefit from anti-fog coatings that prevent internal condensation.
Transparent, bronze, grey, opal, lake blue, amber, dark blue, silver, orange, and yellow. Request custom colours. UV protection at 50–117 microns is co-extrusioned on one or both sides to prevent sun-induced yellowing and deterioration.
Manufacturing and Supply
Baoding Sinhai Sunboard Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has 3 production bases, including a Kashgar plant, 25 manufacturing lines, 50,000+ m² of industrial area, 286+ employees, and an annual output of over 60,000 tonnes SABIC or BAYER resin is available for material traceability applications, although sheets are made from 100% virgin polycarbonate resin.
For the U-lock polycarbonate sheet, it takes a week to process standard orders. Custom sizes take 15–20 days. Kashgar delivers to Central Asia in 7 days, while Tashkent and Dushanbe have regional warehouses for local stocking.
Sea, truck and air freight with cross-border customs clearance are available. ODM and OEM services include CNC cutting, film coating, cold bending, special-shaped cutting, and custom sizing. Minimal purchase quantity: 500 m².
Quality and Certifications
Raw material input, manufacture, and shipping are controlled for quality. Impact resistance, light transmittance, flame retardancy, and weathering resistance are important.
ISO 9001:2015, CE, RoHS, UDEM certified. Baoding Sinhai was a key drafter of the Chinese National Standard for Plastics — Polycarbonate Sheets, issued September 29, 2024, and effective April 1, 2025.
FAQ
Q: How is a product different from a hollow sheet?
A: Connection technique is the main difference. Standard hollow sheets utilise through-surface screws. The u-lock technology leaves the panel face undrilled by snapping connections over the raised 'U'-shaped panel edges. Surface penetration is no longer a leak or stress point.
Q: What thickness suits my application?
A: Glazing partitions and light canopy work employ 8 and 10 mm. 12- and 16-mm structural depths are better for roofing and heavier-load canopies. Spacing and local load requirements affect thickness choosing. Contact us with project information for a customized suggestion.
Q: Can sheets curve?
A: Yes. These sheets facilitate cold-curving, making them suitable for curved canopy and stadium constructions where flat panel systems would not fit.
Q: What UV protection is used?
A: One or both panel sides are co-extruded with 50–117 microns of UV protection. This is part of the panel structure, not a coating.
Q: What is the MOQ and lead time for custom sizes?
A: MOQ is 500 m². Custom sizes are produced in 15–20 working days. Standard-size orders are generally completed in approximately one week.
Q: What resin options are available?
A: All sheets use 100% virgin polycarbonate resin. SABIC or BAYER resin can be specified for projects that require documented material traceability.
