Product Description

Flame Retardant Hollow Polycarbonate Sheet for Roofing & Curtain Walls

Flame retardant hollow polycarbonate sheet from Baoding Sinhai Sunboard Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a type of multi-wall glass material made for building sites where fire safety is very important. These sheets come in sizes ranging from 4 mm to 25 mm and are made on three factories with a total of 25 production lines and more than 60,000 tonnes of output each year. The standard fire ratings are B1 (GB 8624) and UL94 V-2. If you need UL94 V-0, you can ask for it.

What Is a Flame Retardant Hollow Polycarbonate Sheet?

This is a multi-wall thermoplastic sheet for building that needs to be fire-safe. During co-extrusion, fire-resistant ingredients are mixed right into the polycarbonate plastic. They are not put on top. To keep the material's fire resistance from wearing off over time, this is done.

If you heat the sheet, the Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) goes below 28%. This means that it can put out fires on its own and stop them from spreading. According to the people in charge of the projects and the buying teams, this means a window material that meets fire-related building codes like IBC and NFPA and is also much lighter than wired glass, which makes the structure lighter.

Performance Properties

Fire Safety

The Flame retardant hollow polycarbonate sheet passes the UL94 Vertical Burn Test because it goes out on its own in seconds without any flaming drips. The fire safety performance stays the same over the full service life because the flame retardant agents are built into the polymer structure during production. This is different from a surface treatment, where the performance would change over time.

Insulation against heat

Many-walled air spaces that are sealed off have a U-value of as little as 1.6 W/m²K. Usually, a twinwall configuration gets to about 3.3 W/m²K. The air tanks also cut down on noise by 30 dB or more, which is an added benefit that is useful in travel hubs and factories.

Resistance to Impact

With an impact strength of 850 J/m, the sheet is much tougher than glass of the same thickness. It is also lighter than solid polycarbonate sheet of the same thickness. This mix makes placement easier and lessens the load on supporting buildings.

UV and weather defence

The 50-micron co-extruded UV layer stops 98% to 100% of UV light with a wavelength below 380 nm. It can be used in harsh climates in Central Asia, Europe, and Russia, with a service temperature range of -40°C to +120°C.

Main Applications

In a variety of industry and building projects, flame retardant hollow polycarbonate sheet is specified:

  • Curtain walls and skylights in public and commercial buildings need fire-rated, clear cladding.
  • Stadium and arena roofs—wide structures where fire-safe, light-weight ventilation is a building priority
  • Airports and train stations are high-traffic areas where fire resistance helps people get out safely.
  • Industrial roofing includes chemical plants and warehouses where fires on the roof must be stopped from spreading.
  • Data center barriers are clear walls that help keep electrical fires inside the building.
  • Swimming pool covers, canopies, sound barriers, and hallways—projects that combine fire safety with natural light

The normal light transfer ranges from 60% to 80%, which lets people use the inside without affecting the fire-rated performance.

Quality Control

Every batch is inspected several times, including when the raw materials are brought in, while the process is going on, and before it is shipped. The tests that were done on this product are:

  • UL94 Vertical Burn Test—confirms that the fire will go out on its own without any flaming drips. GB 8624 Classification—verification of the B1 fire rating.
  • ISO 6603: Falling Dart Impact Test—inspecting the strength of a structure
  • A cross-sectional study with a microscope shows that the UV co-extrusion layer is at least 50 microns thick.
  • Checks for size and weight errors—makes sure that large modular projects always fit right

The method of making the product is certified by ISO 9001:2015. Sheets are also certified by CE, RoHS, and SGS.

Customization and Supply Options

Standard sheets can be made from stock configurations, and OEM and ODM orders are welcome. Some customisation choices are:

  • Structure of the sheet: twinwall, triple-wall, honeycomb, or X-structure
  • From 4 mm to 25 mm thick
  • 1050 mm, 1220 mm, or 2100 mm of width
  • Changes in colour and surface finish can make light pass through from 0% to 90%.
  • Cutting with a CNC machine, cutting in odd shapes, and film coating

You can request an upgrade to UL94 V-0 fire rating; the minimum order quantity is 500 m². You can pay with a 30% down payment and the remaining 70% by T/T or L/C. Most normal sales have lead times of about one week. The Kashgar output base makes faster travel times possible for customers in Central Asia. Shipping by boat, truck, or plane are all choices for logistics. Every order comes with PE protective film and a wooden box or crate for shipping.

FAQ

Q1: What is the difference between B1 (GB 8624) and UL94 V-0 fire ratings?

A: B1 under GB 8624 classifies materials as flame retardant based on a vertical and horizontal burn test series — it is China's national standard for difficult-to-ignite building materials. UL94 V-0 is a specific vertical burn test under which the sample must stop burning within 10 seconds per application with no flaming drips. Our standard product meets B1 (GB 8624) and UL94 V-2. V-0 is available on request.

Q2: Does the flame retardant additive affect light transmission?

A: Our product produced with 100% virgin PC resin maintains typical light transmission of up to 80%. Flame retardant additives can introduce minor haze in lower-grade products, but the use of virgin resin keeps optical performance close to standard multiwall sheets.

Q3: What structures and thicknesses are available?

A: Twinwall, triple-wall, honeycomb, and X-structure are available. Common thicknesses are 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 / 20 / 25 mm. Standard width is 2100 mm; length is cut to project specification.

Q4: How does the thermal insulation performance compare across structures?

A: Twinwall typically gives a U-value of around 3.3 W/m²K. Multiwall configurations can reach as low as 1.6 W/m²K. The sealed air chambers also provide 30 dB+ sound reduction as a secondary benefit.

Q5: Can the sheets be cold-bent for curved roof designs?

A: Cold bending is possible. The minimum bending radius should be approximately 175 times the sheet thickness to avoid stress concentrations that could affect structural and fire-rated performance.

Q6: Does fire retardancy weaken over time?

A: No. The flame retardant agents are incorporated into the polymer matrix during production, not applied as a surface coating. Fire safety properties remain stable across the 10–20 year warranty period.
