Polycarbonate Sheet Awning for Commercial & Residential Structures
A polycarbonate sheet awning protects against the weather and lets natural light through for a long time. Glass and acrylic have trouble doing both of these things at the same time. The panels are made by Baoding Sinhai Sunboard Manufacturing Co., Ltd. from 100% new Bayer/Sabic resin with a 50µm co-extruded UV layer. This gives the panels an anti-UV rate of 98% to 100%. The panels are made to be used outside in a wide range of conditions. They can withstand impacts of up to 850 J/m and can handle temperatures from -40°C to +120°C.
How Polycarbonate Compares to Glass and Acrylic?
Tempered glass is heavy, will break on impact and is expensive to fix if damaged. With acrylics it becomes yellow and brittle with prolonged UV, usually in five to 10 years. The changed material profiles in polycarbonate sheet awning panels overcome both these faults.
Polycarbonate is about half the weight of glass and has an impact strength 250-300 times that of glass. Polycarbonate is hail, wind-borne debris and high-wind-load zones resistant without stress cracks. The UV protection is co-extruded into the sheet, rather than being sprayed on as a surface coating, so it will not peel, chip or wear off with cleaning and weathering cycles.
Solid polycarbonate sheets may also be cold bent in the field to provide arched or curved canopy designs without the need of heat equipment or factory pre-forming. This reduces the amount of manufacturing procedures and on site installation time for curved roof or wave profile applications.

Performance Characteristics
Impact and Structural Strength
Panels are also hardy enough to withstand a hail hit or fall of debris with an Izod impact rating of 850 J/m. This is not simply an academic problem of course, but a real one for logistical facilities, industrial loading docks, transit shelters, places where unanticipated glass replacement creates operational disturbance.
Regulation of light transmission
The transmission range varies from 0% to 90% depending on the colour and surface quality. For store canopies and entry shelters, clear grades in the 80%-88% range are beneficial for interior brightness. Tinted alternatives at 40%-60% work for the terrace shade roofs and the AC unit covers to reduce the solar heat intake while still allowing diffused sunshine.
Temperature Resistance
Service range -40oC to +120oC (severe winter and summer situations) The panels maintain their dimensions and structural strength throughout thermal cycling, which is important for installations in continental areas with considerable seasonal temperature variations.
Fire Protection
B1 Classification acc. to GB 8624 and UL94 V-2 Classification, Self-extinguishing Material Both ratings are applicable to commercial buildings and projects for public infrastructure when fire-safety criteria are part of the design brief.
Typical Applications
Polycarbonate sheet awning panels are used for a variety of overhead and shelter structures:
- Shopfronts and entrance canopies – large span covering, impact resistant, attractively transparent
- Door & Window Canopies – Lightweight, suitable with common aluminium or steel sub frames
- Covered walkways and corridor pergolas – natural light without excessive heat build-up
- Patios and terraces of houses — Outdoors with UV filtering Arched profiles possible with cold bending
- Bus shelters and transit entrances - Resists vibration, wind load and continuous high frequency usage
- Industrial loading docks—chemical-resistant surface, natural light, decreases artificial lighting burden AC unit covers—heat-tolerant, low maintenance
The ability to cold bend allows for curved and wave-shaped roof profiles on projects where glass would need special production and a far greater cost.
Structural Frame Compatibility and Node Design
The sheets are suited for steel, aluminium and wooden structural frames. Every purchase includes project specific node design drawings, waterproofing information at panel connections, screw placement plans, expansion-gap calculations based on actual thermal movement data.
Drawings are produced for each project. The node designs are intended to address both issues when the awning is designed and not after it is erected. Common awning failures include seams between panels and water pooling under the covering.
We accept bulk project orders with on site installation help. Standard volume orders get remote technical assistance and video walkthroughs.
Customization and Supply Options
Projects range in size from small to large, with differences in load requirements and design purpose. The choices are:
- 4 mm to 25 mm thick, specially engineered to suit span and wind load requirements
- Full sheets up to 2,500 mm wide, minimising the number of overlap joints on vast spans
- CNC cutting to your project precise dimensions
- Privacy, sunlight control or surface branding film coatings
- OEM and ODM contracts for project developers and distributors
- Solid PC sheet uses – Bending, profile cutting, thermoforming
Sinhai has three manufacturing sites and over 25 production lines, with 70+ moulds for corrugated profiles, to meet the needs of mixed-container procurement and big engineering-volume requirements.
Quality and Standards Background
Each batch is checked for production quality in four parameters: impact resistance, light transmittance, flame retardancy and weathering resistance. The checks are already at raw material input, throughout manufacturing and at final delivery.
Certifications: ISO 9001:2015, CE, RoHS, SGS, UDEM.
Sinhai was identified as one of the principal drafting units for the Chinese National Standard for Plastics - Polycarbonate Sheets (issued September 29, 2024; effective April 1, 2025). Participation in national standard drafting suggests a degree of technical involvement with polycarbonate materials science that goes beyond normal manufacture.
FAQ
Q: What are the thickness and breadth options?
A: Thickness ranges from 4 mm to 25 mm. The maximum width of a sheet is 2,500 mm per complete sheet, which is sufficient for most architectural spans without the need for a mid-span overlap connection. Length, is to your project specification reduced.
A: What installation assistance do you offer?
A: For each order, the project is supplied with the node design drawings: waterproofing specifications, screw placement plans and expansion gap calculations. All purchases include with video and remote installation instructions. Bulk project quantities with on-site assistance.
Q: What is the lifespan of the UV protection?
A: The 50 µm UV layer is co-extruded in the sheet, not a surface coating. It blocks UV under 380 nm and does not deteriorate with typical cleaning or weathering. Warranty lengths are from 10 to 20 years depending on the application environment and the specified sheet thickness.
Q: How about the MOQ and the manufacturing time?
A: MOQ is 500m2. Standard Production Lead Time 7-15 Business Days. The Kashgar manufacturing location can cut the travel time to around 7 days for orders to Central Asian markets.
Q: What is the conditions of payment and shipping?
A: T/T 30% as deposit and 70% before shipping, L/C. Shipping is possible by boat, truck or air freight depending on location and volume.
