Baoding Sinhai Sunboard Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a manufacturer of anti-scratch solid polycarbonate sheet with over 30 years of producing experience of PC, three manufacturing bases and more than 25 production lines, annual output of more than 60,000 tonnes. Each sheet is made from 100% virgin Bayer/Sabic PC resin and has a 50μm UV co-extrusion layer that offers 98-100% UV block below 380nm. It also has a polysiloxane or silica-nanoparticle hard coat on both sides with pencil hardness ≥2H-3H. The impact strength is rated at 850 J/m and the light transmission is up to 90%.
Standard polycarbonate is robust mechanically yet soft on the surface compared to glass or acrylic. Repeated cleaning with brushes or abrasive cloths, exposure to airborne grit and mechanical contact in industrial situations slowly hazes the surface. Once the optical clarity is compromised, generally the sheet is replaced.
The hard coat on both sides of this sheet deals with it immediately. The fundamental PC core preserves its full impact toughness, but the coating improves surface hardness to 2H–3H pencil hardness — a big step forward from the sub-HB surface of typical PC sheets.

Surface hardness and resistance to abrasion: The coating may achieve a pencil hardness of 2H–3H. Taber Abrasion testing (ASTM D1044, CS-10F wheels, 500g load) indicates delta haze below 2-4% after 100 cycles, suggesting the surface stays optically clear despite repeated mechanical cleaning contact.
Impact toughness: the sheet has an impact strength of 850 J/m, which is 250-300× the impact strength of glass. The hard coat application method is managed to retain the core toughness of the underlying PC – no increase in notch sensitivity after coating is confirmed by falling dart impact testing.
Chemical Resistance: The coating is resistant to typical cleaning chemicals, graffiti removers and industrial solvents and is appropriate for use in transit stations, public facilities, factory floors and other situations where harsh cleaning is regular.
UV stability: The 50µm UV co-extrusion is a separate co-extruded barrier not the surface hard coat. Resists fading and brittleness from prolonged outdoor exposure. Coating stability assessment using accelerated weathering (QUV) test.
Optical clarity: Anti-scratch solid polycarbonate sheet has a light transmission up to 88-90% fulfilling ASTM D1003 optical standards. The smooth surface finish gives a glass-like appearance appropriate for architectural, exhibition and safety glazing applications.

Q3: Can the sheet be cold-curved on site?
A: Yes. Use a minimum bending radius of ≥175× the sheet thickness. Tighter bends risk crazing the hard coat even when the base PC would normally tolerate a smaller radius.
Q4: Is the hard coat applied to one side or both?
A: Both single-sided (SC) and double-sided (DC) configurations are available. Double-sided coating is the practical choice for applications where both faces are exposed to abrasion or cleaning contact.
Q5: How does this compare to acrylic (PMMA) for scratch resistance?
A: Acrylic is naturally harder than standard PC but considerably more brittle. This pproduct combines the impact toughness of PC with a hard coat that achieves scratch resistance comparable to PMMA, without the brittleness that makes acrylic unsuitable for impact-exposed applications.
